Creative Japanese sweets good for your body and mind
" Wanokashi Meguri" is a Japanese sweets shop in Yoyogi Uehara wich is run all by Noriko Kuroiwa.
This is a special Japanese sweets shop where all products are vegan and based on macrobiotic diet.
There are five kinds of sweets such as Daifuku (Japanese traditional sweets : round rice cake stuffed with sweet bean paste) and pudding are available on the wooden box in the store. Shaved ice and popsicles are also very popular in summer! There is also a cafe menu so you can relax in the restaurant. You can also use the eat-in space by purchasing a drink for 500 yen to go together with your sweets.
In the cafe menu, “Bean butter toast set”(1,000 yen tax excluded) is gluten-free bread coated with butter-flavored coconut oil and served with 2 bean jams of your choice: tsubu (grain bean paste)/smooth/white smooth/matcha. This coconut oil tastes just like butter! Enjoy rich taste with plenty of butter and bean paste.
Although it is being said that Japanese traditional sweets can’t be made without white sugar, well all items this sweets shop are made without it! How?! The sweetness comes from agave syrup made out of agave plant. Agave syrup can be found in supermarkets but it is still not a major sweetener in Japan yet.
The most popular menu is Daifuku "Fukumeguri". There are two flavors: tsubuan (grain bean paste) and smooth bean paste, 350 yen (tax excluded) each. Smooth bean paste is Meguri’s signature bean paste! Unlike the regular Koshi-an (strained bean paste), all of the red bean skin and lye are cooked until they are very smooth. This process makes gentle and really smooth! Red beans are grown by natural cultivation so that you can enjoy the natural sweetness of red beans.
The round form is so cute of this " Smiley bean paste", 300 yen (tax excluded) each. You can enjoy 4 types of this dairy-free creamy chocolate wrapped in smooth bean paste. Flavors available are matcha, smooth, pumpkin and white smooth.
